Maxine E. Wooley

Graveside services for Maxine E. Wooley, 81, of Belton, were held 10 a.m. Feb. 18 at Holland Cemetery in Holland with Steve Vaughn officiating under the direction of Dossman Funeral Home.

Visitation was Feb. 17 from 6-8 p.m. at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton.  

Mrs. Wooley passed away Feb. 12 at a Fort Worth Hospice.

She was born May 5, 1932, in Beckley, W.V., the daughter of Harold Robert Bowling and Ethel Thelma (Hendricks) Bowling. Maxine married her husband, Billy Wooley, Aug. 17, 1960, in Belton after moving here in 1958 from Beckley, W.V. She was a member of Elm Grove Baptist Church and a member of the Lady’s Auxiliary at the VFW. Maxine worked as a waitress then in the kitchen staff for the Belton Independent School District. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, knitting, and loved to fish, camp and garden her flowers.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Billy Wooley; one son, Billy Dean Wooley; one daughter, Terry Lynn Geiselbrecht; one brother and one sister.

Survivors include her son, Johnny Austin and wife Becky of Fort Worth, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.


Ruby Lucille Parker

Funeral services for Ruby Lucille Parker, 93, of Belton, were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Dossman Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Johnson officiating. Burial followed at the Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family received friends for visitation 6-8 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.

Mrs. Parker died Feb. 15 in a Belton Nursing Center.

Mrs. Parker was born Sept. 29, 1920, in Belton, the daughter of William Kyle Powell and Sarah Ollie (Sikes) Powell. She was a 1938 graduate of Belton High School. She married Curtis Carter Parker, July 5, 1939, in Tennessee Valley. Mrs. Parker worked for 13 years with Cochran, Blair and Potts Department Store. She was a volunteer in the Nolanville Schools while her sons were in school, serving as secretary, treasurer and president of the Nolanville PTA. She was a longtime member of Miller Heights Baptist Church in Belton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Parker, in January 1989.

Survivors include two sons, Mack Parker of Belton and Mike Parker of Temple; three grandchildren, Jessica Parker Collins and husband Craig, Emily Parker Maybin and husband Bradley, and Chris Parker; two great-grandchildren, Parker Maybin and Tate Maybin.

Memorials may be made to Miller Heights Baptist Church Building Fund.


Winifred L. Hawthorne

Funeral services for Winifred L. Hawthorne, 88, of Temple, were held at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 15, at the Taylor’s Valley Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Loudin and Rev. Scott Matthews officiating.  Burial followed at the Greathouse Cemetery. 

The family received friends for visitation Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Dossman Funeral Home.

Mr. Hawthorne was born Feb. 16, 1925, in McDade, Texas, the son of William Leston Hawthorne and Ruby (Mobley) Hawthorne. He attended school in Bastrop County. He was a War World II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific on the transport ship, the USS Hammondsport. He married Virginia Nance Sept. 28, 1946, in Elgin. In 1948, they made their home in Temple.  Mr. Hawthorne went to work at the Temple Veterans Hospital where he retired Oct. 12, 1980, after 32 years of service there. 

After retirement, Winifred pursued his dream of buying, restoring and selling Model A Fords. He and his wife traveled the country going to swap meets and tradeshows all over the country. In Model A Ford circles all over the country he was given the endearing nickname “The Model A King”.

Winifred is survived by his wife of 67 years, Virginia Hawthorne of Temple; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry Leston Hawthorne and wife Susan of Salado and Gary Lynn Hawthorne and wife Nelda of Georgetown; one sister, Melba Baysden of Jacksonville, N.C.; three grandsons, Andy and wife Julia, Bryan and wife Alycia, Jeremy and wife Michelle; one granddaughter, Trichelle Hawthorne; three great-granddaughters, Brooklynn, Presely and Braely; and his best buddy, his dog, Lucy.

Memorials may be made to the Taylor’s Valley Baptist Church 2497 FM 93 Temple, Texas 76502.
