Belton High School Baseball has had a rich history of pitching that has been represented well in the 21st century.
Three more former Belton pitchers will be making the jump to professional baseball as University of Texas at Arlington pitcher John Beck, Baylor pitcher Dillon Newman and Temple College pitcher Tyler Vail have been drafted by Major League Baseball franchises.
The Belton Tigers 7-on-7 team hosted the Belton State Qualifier Tournament Saturday at Tiger Field.
The Tigers, a week removed from earning their ticket to the Region I State Tournament in July, played Bastrop Cedar Creek, Austin Bowie and Waco in Pool A of the SQT.
The Belton High School Softball Camp was another roaring success this week, as over 50 campers over two days participated in drills, skills challenges and lessons from Belton coach Matt Blackburn.
"We had a really good turnout as compared to previous years," said Blackburn. "There were 36 incoming 9th grades, more than any of the six years I've hosted a camp."
The Belton Tigers hosted the 7-on-7 State Qualifier Tournament (SQT) at four sites around the Belton-area on Saturday with two bids on the line for the 2013 State 7-on-7 Region I Tournament in Leander July 12-13. 16 teams participated in the tournament within four pools. Lake Travis, Pflugerville Hendrickson and Belton already gained berths in the state tournament from previous tournaments.
The Belton Exes Golf Tournament is quickly becoming a tradition at the late-June/early-July time frame on the calendar. The 2013 installment is approaching quickly.
It's a golf event that involves ex-Belton students and alumni. Many of golfers are former Belton athletes.
The 2013 Lone Star Shootout 7-on-7 football tournament will be held at Belton High School this Friday and Saturday.
If you have not seen 7-on-7 football, you are in for a treat. It is high octane flag football, with the athleticism of the Friday night games. High powered offenses against solid defensive secondaries. It is high scoring and never boring.
Belton athletics will be having several camps for the area youth players in June to help strengthen skills and encourage camaraderie.
The Belton boys soccer team will hosting their summer camps at the Belton Middle School practice fields. The camp on June 17-20 will be for incoming grades six through nine from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. For more information, contact coach Tarcisio Mosnia at (254) 215-2237.
Registrations for the Belton Tigers Youth Football League 2013 season are now underway.
The mission of BTYFL is to enable young people to benefit from participation in team sports and activities in a safe and structured environment. Through this active participation, BTYFL teaches fundamental values, skills and knowledge that young people will use throughout their lives. There will be encouragement of mental and physical growth through trained instruction and keen competition. An emphasis will be placed on self discipline, moral values, academic achievement and social skills.
