Belton awarded 2014 12U State Tourney

The Belton Youth Baseball Association was awarded the 2014 Texas Teen-Age Baseball 12U Open Base State Tournament to be held at Heritage Park in Belton in July 2014.
The news came at the end of the 2013 Annual Texas Teen-Age Baseball/Softball Affiliates Meeting in Hillsboro last Saturday.
The 2013 TTAB 12U baseball tournament was held in Ennis last month.

Belton Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament Sept. 9

The Belton Area Chamber of Commerce’s 21st Annual Fall Golf Classic, supporting the efforts of the Military Family Relations Committee, has announced that there are exclusive sponsorship availabilities for the tournament taking place Monday, Sept. 9, at Wildflower Country Club.

Tigers Youth Football Camp ends with football tourney and lineman challenge

The Belton Tigers Football Camp for sixth through ninth graders ended last week at Belton High School.
Almost 400 campers turned out for the week-long session, braving the 100-degree heat.
“The participation on Monday is a testament to how strong football is in Belton,” said Belton athletic director/head coach Rodney Southern.

2012-2013 season set high water mark for Belton scholarship awards

It was a record year for Belton athletes in landing big time scholarships in 2012 with the Belton Tigers Athletic Program kids receiving $939,500 in scholarships last year. Football led with the way with $801,500 in scholarships received this year a number that includes Adrian Henderson’s two-year offer he accepted from Memphis.

Silvana Jaimes Martinez went home to be with her heavenly father on Tuesday, August 6 at the age of 83.  Silvana was born on May 4, 1930 in Mexico, the daughter of Atenojines y Facunda Martinez. 
Silvana’s life was centered on home and family.  She was the mother of 12 children and spent her life caring for them.

Services for Charles “Chuck” Mc Ilvanie, 54, of Temple will be held at 3:00 pm Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at Heights Baptist Church with Rev.  Billy Koinm officiating.  Interment will follow at Temple Garden of Memories.
Mr. Mc Ilvanie died Thursday, August 8th at a local hospital.

Local scam prevention seminar informs, warns

On Aug. 13, Kay Hirrill of Stoney Brook Retirement Center hosted the Right at Home care and assistance company at a senior scam stopper seminar.  Jon Searles, certified senior advisor and his staff, Tiffany Babeu and Angie Rigg, presented the 10 most common senior scams and frauds.  Searles went into detail about the 160 scam approaches which affect 7.9 million seniors each year.

Statesboro Revue takes stage during Texas Music Series

With a unique beat and a groove all their own, Statesboro Revue is set to take the stage in Schoepf’s Backyard tonight for the last of the Texas Music Series.
Statesboro Revue began in 2008 with lead singer Stewart Mann after moving back to Texas from a stint in Los Angeles. The idea for the band came from a want “to create a groovy type of root rock,” Mann said. “I didn’t feel that Texas country is who I was as a person. I thought I’d try to use my influences to create a sound that’s unique to myself.”

Bell County taxes to remain steady

Of the numerous items on the Bell County Commissioners Court, but one of the most important items was the approval of the proposed tax rates for notice of public hearing purposes. There will be no change for either Bell County or the Road  District. The effective rate will maintain at 45.11 cents for both Bell County and Road District.
