Four candidates have officially filed to run in the upcoming May 10 general election.

United Rentals Branch Manager Guy O’Banion filed for a seat on the Belton City Council last Friday.

On the first day that candidates could file, Jan. 29, current Belton City Council member and Mayor Pro-Tem Marion Grayson filed to run for the office of Mayor. For the first time since 2006, Jim Covington will not be a part of the election process as the long-time mayor decided to not seek re-election this year.

Two current Belton Independent School District Board of Trustees members also filed for re-election on Jan. 29 as Jason Carothers and Amanda Winkler filed for the two Area At-Large positions.

The deadline to file for an open office runs until Feb. 28. For more information about the Belton City Council openings, contact City Hall at (254) 933-5817.
