U.S. Representative John Carter presented Nicholas Shelburne of Belton with the 2008 Congressional Certificate of Merit. The ceremony took place at the Belton High School Performing Arts Center. "Nicholas is a prime example of Texas' finest," Carter said. "He has proven himself as a leader not only at Belton High School, but also throughout the community with service activities. Passion and determination for leading are trademarks of Nicholas." "A natural leader, he is a role model for others and he excels wherever he applies his efforts. When you look at students like [him], you see America's next generation of leaders," he continued. "It is an honor to represent him in Congress and an honor to present him with this award." The Congressional Certificate of Merit is presented to an outstanding high school senior at each high school throughout the district. This award is given to an outstanding student who demonstrates leadership in their school and civic activities, a commitment to community service, and scholastic achievement. |
