BHS girls basketball camp scores points with players

basketball-camp1The Belton High School Girls' Summer Basketball Camp dribbled and passed its way to record numbers this week at Tiger Gym.

Over 80 campers participated in drills, skills challenges and lessons from Belton coach Brenda Gomez, South Belton Middle school coach and Women's Basketball Hall of Famer Fran Garmon and several basketball coaches on the high school and middle school levels.

With many players and parents in attendance, the basketball hungry campers got their daily dose of basketball with calisthenics, running, dribbling, ball handling, passing and shooting.

"The key of this camp is to concentrate on the fundamentals," said coach Gomez. "There is a great deal of talent in this group. It's up to us to help teach the fundamentals."

In the main gymnasium, campers practiced lay up lines, footwork, defensive posturing, shooting and passing. The art of defensive communication and offensive sets was also stressed during sessions.

The coaching staff oversaw the teachings and mentoring that the current Belton Lady Tigers players relayed to the future Lady Tiger hopefuls.
