Former University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men’s basketball player Patrick Oliver has signed a one-year contract to play professional basketball for the Fjolnir club in the Iceland Express League. He returns to the professional league in Iceland after initially playing professionally in the fall of 2006. The Iceland Express League is the top professional league in Iceland. Oliver will report to the team at the end of August and the season runs approximately seven months. He will play for the men’s team and coach the Fjolnir women’s team. Oliver, a forward from Brazos High School, was an American Southwest Conference First Team All-West Division selection as a senior in 2005-06. He averaged 13.2 points and 7.2 rebounds per game his senior season and also added 36 assists, 34 steals and 34 blocked shots. Oliver helped lead the Cru to an 18-9 record, a 16-6 conference mark and the semifinals of the ASC Championship Tournament as a senior. He was a two-year letter winner for the Cru after transferring from Concordia-Austin and earned three ASC All-West Division selections during his career. After returning from his first stint in Iceland, Oliver played wide receiver for the Cru football team last season and earned Honorable Mention All-ASC honors after setting a school record with 12 touchdown receptions. Oliver was the first UMHB basketball player to sign a professional contract since Larren Silver signed with Mexican League following the 1999-2000 season.
