The Belton High school swim teams earned their best-finish-ever at the Aggieland Swim Meet Nov. 7 at the A&M Natatorium in College Station. The boys team finished in 10th place and the girls finished 15th. A smiling coach Mike Burt commented afterward: “This is the first time that the teams have ever broken into the top 20!”
Leading the Tiger swimmers was junior Kyle Burt, who finished in third place in the 100-yard freestyle. Freshman Benjamin York was 12th and junior Jonathan Sabedra finished 16th in the 100-yard freestyle.
Senior Jason Ellis was sixth and freshman Mitch Anderson was 13th in the 500-yard freestyle and senior Trey Falsone finished 16th in the 50-yard freestyle.
Four of the six relays also finished in the top 16 places.
Junior Lady Tiger Samantha Horton finished in 12th place in the 100-yard backstroke for the only individual girl finish.
Three top 16 finishes in relays helped the team earn its highest finish ever.
“The team continues to make progress,” stated Burt. “Just two years ago, I was happy if the swimmers could score just one point. However, as we make progress, so do the other teams and we need to continue to work hard and believe that we can reach our goals.”
The Tigers next Swim Meet is tonight (Thursday) at home in the Roy and Jean Potts Belton Swim Center. The Tiger swimmers take on district rival Harker Heights starting at 6 p.m.
