Tigers golf wins again in Killeen

Belton's Tiger Three golf team won the Ellison-Shoemaker Spring Invitational on Valentine's Day. The Tigers beat eight other schools to take the title at the Courses of Clear Creek on Fort Hood --- another win for coach Jimmy Hellums' youngest team.
Belton carded a team score of 348 to beat second-place Harker Heights by 21 strokes! The rest of the field in order was: Elgin, Hendrickson, Waco Reicher, Copperas Cove, Ellison, Killeen and Shoemaker.
Two Tiger teammates, Zach Hites and Brock Ratliff, fired an 84 to tie for 1st Place Medalist and both were named to the All-Tournament team.
Hunter Mattson joined the pair on the All-Tournament team, He fired an 85, Dalton Chapman shot a 94 and Tanner Libby had a 113.
Another of Hellums ' three teams, Tiger One, finished fourth in a star-studded field of 22 Friday in the rain-shortened Marvin Dameron Invitational at Twin River Golf Course in Waco.
"The tournament had a great field, probably the best that we play in all year, a preview of Regional," stated Hellums. "Several of the top 5A teams in the state were there....The Woodlands, Westlake, McKinney Boyd, Lufkin, Dallas Jesuit, Klein Oak and, of course....Belton!"
The Woodlands were tournament champs, followed by Westlake, Lufkin, BELTON TIGER ONE, A&M Consolidated, Harker Heights, McKinney Boyd, Tyler Lee, Dallas Jesuit, Klein Collins, Naaman Forest, Klein Oak, Lake Highlands, South Garland, Stony Point, Temple, Round Rock, Leander, McNeil, Copperas Cove, Pflugerville and Ellison.
Individually, Andrew Paysse and Preston Parker tied to lead the five-some, shooting 76. Zach Plunk carded an 80, Kyle Revis had an 81 and Nick Ratliff got an 83.
Tiger Three and Medalists wil compete today in the Elgin Spring Invitational at Bluebonnet Hill Golf Course in Austin and the Tiger Three team will play tomorrow, Friday, at the Heart Of Texas Invitational at Cottonwood Creek in Waco.
