Tigers falls to Cove

The Tigers loaded the bases over and over Tuesday night in the varsity's district opener against the BullDawgs --- there was just one problem, they were unable to get those runners back across home plate for scores. Cove downed Belton 5-2 and sent head coach Eddie Cornblum back to the drawing board.

Cove rapped 10 hits off Belton's Hunter Houston, Layne Pickens and Shane Ward, scoring once in the first, and two runs in both the fourth and sixth innings.

On the opposite side of the field, Belton (6-10, 0-1) only scored twice, in the fourth and seventh innings but left runners stranded with the bases loaded in the second. fourth and sixth.

All in all, 11 Tigers made it on the base paths but only two managed to score. The opportunities were there but unlike past Tiger teams, the job didn't get done.

Belton tied the game in the top of the fourth when Blayten Magana doubled home Austin Bishoff but the Dawgs answered in the bottom of that inning with two scores to take the lead for good.

In the final inning, Max Hogan scored the Tigers' only other run when Magana flew out to right field.
