Tuesday, 03 April 2012 by Keith Bahlmann
The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor will host a summer boy's basketball camp for children entering grades 3rd and up this summer. UMHB head men's basketball coach Ken DeWeese, UMHB assistant coach Jimmy Smith and graduate assistant coach Zane Johnston will conduct the camp. A staff of area high school coaches and current UMHB collegiate players will assist Coach DeWeese. Ken DeWeese has compiled a 664-224 won-lost record as a collegiate head coach and has guided the Cru to the postseason in 13 of his 14 seasons at UMHB. Coach Jimmy Smith just completed his third season as assistant coach at UMHB and has also worked as a graduate assistant on the Division I level at Sam Houston State University.
The Cru Boy's Basketball Camp will emphasize fundamental offensive skills like shooting, passing, dribbling, individual offensive moves and reading defenses. There will also be instruction relating to defensive and rebounding techniques. The camp will also offer separate instructional sessions for 3rd through 7th grades and 8th through 12th grades.
The cost of the camp is $100 per student. All of the camp sessions will be held at the Mayborn Campus Center on the UMHB campus. Registration forms are available in the UMHB athletic office. For more information, please call Coach Jimmy Smith at (254) 295-5197.
