SOS Leadership releases 2nd book
Friday, 20 April 2012 by Matthew Girard
Family and friends gathered at Summer's Mill Retreat Center in Belton last Wednesday to help the father, son and daughter team of Bill Moyer, Billy Moyer and Amber Fogarty of SOS Leadership to launch their new book entitled "Retreat to Success."
Despite adverse weather conditions, about 40 people were on hand as the Moyer family spoke about the book and signed autographs during the official book launch.
"It was a good way to launch the book," Billy said.
"Retreat to Success" is the second book Bill and Billy have authored and the first for Fogarty.
"We decided a long time ago that we wanted to write another book," Billy said. "Our first book, 'Seeds of Success,' got a great response and as we were thinking about what our next book would be, we realized that we wanted to bring my sister into it as well. We wanted a female perspective for the new book."
SOS Leadership is a national leadership development and coaching organization based out of Belton, with Billy serving as the President and COO, Bill serving as Chairman and CEO and Fogarty serving as the company's Chief Marketing Officer.
Billy said the book is about taking time out each day to slow down and finding one's purpose.
"We wanted to write a book about slowing down and finding your life purpose," Billy said. "In our business, we help organizations figure out where they are going and help them develop mission statements, but really it's about the individual. We wanted a book that a person could read and be encouraged to slow down and understand how they can find their purpose."
The book follows three characters – the young gun, super woman and the retreat leader – as they meet for a company retreat to reflect on their goals.
"A lot of the insights in the books are things that we've done with our clients for years," Billy said. "Those ideas are incorporated into the book through stories and journal entries."
The characters are based on Billy, Bill and Amber and their experiences.
Bill said the purpose of the book is to help people take just 15 minutes a day to think about one's goals and how to achieve them.
"As we grow, what we want changes and if we are so locked in on the goal, we don't even know that we changed and then we get what we want and it's not what we wanted," Bill said. "The 15 minutes every day is for clarity.
"It really talks about those inter-relationships and personality differences with all three of us."
Bill said it was exciting to work with two of his children in writing the book.
"A family business is a challenge because you never really turn it off," Bill said.
The book is just 100 pages and includes a forward by Chairwoman and CEO of The Dwyer Group Dina Dwyer-Owens. The book is available through SOS's website at www.sosleadership.com and Amazon.com for $12.95.
