Bell County Sheriffs respond to shooting near MPR

At approximately 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Bell County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to the 600 block of Benchmark Trail in response to a person being shot.
As deputies were responding to the scene, the deputies were advised that the shooting suspect was in a green jeep. Within minutes, deputies located the suspect vehicle at the intersection of FM 2271 and FM 439.
Three suspects were taken into custody and two weapons were recovered from the vehicle.
During this time period, other deputies arrived on the shooting scene and observed a deceased male laying in the roadway with numerous gunshot wounds.
The two male suspects were transported to the Bell County Jail and a female was transported to Scott & White Hospital by ambulance.
The shooting victim was transported to Southwest Institute Forensic Science-Dallas for an autopsy.
As of press time, the victim was not identified pending notification of family members.
Murder charges filed in February shooting incident
Murder charges were recently filed in the shooting death of Stephen Wright, 20, of Belton.
On Feb. 26 at approximately 3:20 p.m., Belton Police officers responded to a report of a deceased person in the 400 block of W. 7th Ave., where Wright was found deceased on the front porch of his residence with a single gunshot wound to his torso.
Following an investigation by the Criminal Investigation Division of the BPD, charges were filed against Chance De Allen Keller, 25, of Waco, on March 29. Keller had been in the McLennan County Jail since Feb. 28 as a suspect in a Waco aggravated robbery, along with several other charges. A murder warrant was issued by the Bell County District Attorney's Office on March 28 and was served on Keller at the McLennan County Jail. Bond was set at $1 million.
