Belton sends eight to regional meet

Tiger track will send eight athletes to the Class 5A Region II meet at Baylor University. Five girls and three boys qualified for regionals at the recent District 12-5A meet in Copperas Cove.
Lady Tigers are Ashley Russell, Katelin Huckabee (2 events), Emily Krenek, Chloe Lewis (2 events) and Rebecca Alcozer. For the Tigers, it's Pathion Collins, Kyle Rhoads and Steven Ash.
Both BHS track teams, boys and girls, finished in fifth place in the district showdown.
"We were very pleased with how they performed at district, getting five girls out of our district that's so strong in the sprints and relays. We were hoping for third place but we came in a 'tight fifth'. The kids did well and that's what matters," stated Lady Tiger head coach Denise Petter. "We have a Regional Qualifiers meet this week, a practice meet that gives athletes a chance to compete again before regionals. We have a strong chance of getting a couple of our girls out (to state)"
The Tigers will compete at Converse Judson Friday evening while the Lady Tigers changed their meet and day to Thursday (today) at Gordon Wood Stadium in Brownwood.
"One of our throwers has a very important district softball game on Friday," Petter explained "and we don't want to penalize her or have her need to make a choice between the two."
