Annual Turtle Festival set for Saturday

The fifth annual Belton Kiwanis Turtle Festival is set for this Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Yettie Polk Park in downtown Belton.

Hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Belton, the annual Turtle Festival is designed to positively impact children's lives by partnering with community organizations, matching needs with opportunities, and fostering the development of key relationships in the community.

Although called the Turtle Festival, there are no actual real turtles that take part in the event.

Each entry is a small, numbered floating turtle, and prizes are awarded to the entries to reach the finish line in a given order.

Kiwanis Club President Steven Kirkpatrick said the event keeps growing every year.

"I think it's growing — it's going to be bigger than it's ever been — people are talking about it," Kirkpatrick said.

There will be 63 exhibitors at this event, along with food vendors and general contributors.

Brian Beard of Fox 44 will be the MC for the event, and music will be provided by Joe Stento; other entertainment includes the Brazos Bottom Cow'ographers Wild West gun fighting show.
