Cynthia-HernandezBEDC Executive Director Cynthia Hernandez thanks friends and family during the BACC’s annual tree dedication ceremony.Heritage Park is a little greener after the Belton Area Chamber of Commerce held its annual tree dedication for the 2011 Beltonian and Citizen of the Year award winners last Friday.

During the dedication, two trees were planted in honor of Workforce Solutions of Central Texas Executive Director Susan Kamas (Beltonian) and Belton Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Cynthia Hernandez (Citizen of the Year). In January, Kamas and Hernandez were honored at the Chamber's Annual Banquet with their respective awards and along with the trees being planted, both women's names were engraved in stone and placed in front of the trees.

"I'm elated and the tree is absolutely beautiful," Kamas said of her Red Oak tree.

The tree dedication to honor the Beltonian and Citizen of the Year award winners was started by the 1999 class of Leadership Belton.

BACC-honorsThe BACC honors its 2011 award winners during annual tree dedication ceremony."I'm very honored to be here and have a tree planted in my honor in the same place that people like Les Hallbauer and Trae Sutton and all the others that have received these awards," Hernandez said. "I don't see my contributions as work because it's just a pleasure to do those things."

The two trees are the 25th and 26th trees planted in the park since the program was started. The Beltonian Award is voted on by the citizens of Belton and the Citizen of the Year Award is decided on by the BACC Board of Directors.
