Commissioners give awards

Ester Roque (right) of the Temple HELP Center received the United Way Outstanding Service Award.Two special service-to-the community awards were presented at Monday's regular meeting of the Bell County Commissioners' Court.

County Judge Jon Burrows recognized the pair and United Way CEO Ann Thompson told those assembled of the importance of the recipients' work to the local community before presenting the awards.

Judy Morales, Director of the Temple HELP Center, was given the United Way Dr. Ralph Wilson Volunteer of the Year Award and Ester Roque of the Temple HELP Center received the United Way Outstanding Service Award.

In other commissioners' court business, county dads and the audience viewed a video presentation by the Technical Services Department of Bell County's newly-implemented online traffic ticket processing system; an interlocal agreement was approved between Bell County and the cities of Temple and Killeen regarding the 2012 Byrne Justice Assistance Grant Program award; and awarded several bids for materials purchases presented by the county engineer.
