UMHB places seven on women’s All-Conference tennis team

The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's tennis team placed seven players on the American Southwest Conference All-Conference and All-Division Teams released today. Cru senior Megan Aarhus was also voted ASC West Division Most Valuable Player to headline one All-Conference pick and two First Team All-West Division singles selection and a First Team All-West Division doubles team.

Megan Aarhus, a senior from Georgetown High School earned West Division Most Valuable Player honors after posting an 11-4 record at #1 singles. She also went 12-6 overall in doubles. Megan was named to the All-West Division First Team at #1 singles and teamed with her twin sister, Mallory, to take First Team All-West Division honors at #1 doubles after the duo recorded a 9-3 overall record and was unbeaten in West Division play.

Mallory Aarhus, also a senior from Georgetown High School, was voted to the ASC All-Conference Team at #2 singles after going 16-2 on the year. She was also voted to the All-West Division First Team at both #2 singles and #1 doubles as a team with her twin sister.

AshLee Bilbo and Angelie Juaneza earned Second Team All-West Division honors in singles. Bilbo, a sophomore from Bryan High School, claimed #4 singles honors after recording an 8-6 mark in singles play. Juaneza, a freshman from Katy Morton Ranch High School, was 10-5 at #5 singles on the spring.

Bilbo and Penelope Kittel also earned Second Team All-West Division honors at #2 doubles. Bilbo and Kittel, a sophomore from Kyle Lehman High School, combined to post a 3-2 overall mark in that position while going undefeated in ASC West Division play.

Chaley Shiffler and Carrie Ramos both took Honorable Mention All-West Division honors in singles play. Shiffler, a sophomore from Katy Morton Ranch High School, took honors at #3 singles after posting a 9-8 overall record. Ramos, a junior from Temple High School, took #6 singles honors after going 4-8 overall in that position.

The doubles team of Shiffler and Juaneza took Honorable Mention All-West Division honors at #3 doubles. The pair recorded a 6-1 record in that position this season.

The Cru women went 12-6 overall and advanced to the ASC Championship Tournament for the fifth straight year. UMHB advanced to the semifinals of the ASC Tournament before falling to eventual conference champion U.T.-Tyler 5-2.

McMurry's Brandy Curry and Caitlin Zarr of Texas Lutheran shared West Division Freshman of the Year honors. Morgan Rainer of Hardin-Simmons was named West Division Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year and McMurry's Mark Hathorn claimed West Division Coach of the Year honors.
