Belton wins Junior High 7-on-7 tournament

7-on-7-tournamentLast Friday was a busy, busy day for hundreds of young football players --- 40 middle school teams competed in the Junior High 7-on-7 tournament. Entries from all three Belton middle schools, McGregor, Gatesville, Salado, Holland and Central Texas Christian School played a total of 69 games on 20 fields in the course of five hours.

Belton won all three of the 7-on-7 Championships with each school tallying a victory.

A dozen teams competed in the 8th grade Championship game. South Belton 8-1 placed first with 29 points; Lake Belton 8-1 was second with 19.

In the 16-team 7th grade title game, BMS 7-1 scored 27 points to win; McGregor 7-1 was second with 6 points.

In the 6th grade game with 12 teams competing, Lake Belton 6-1 took the title with 18 points; McGregor garnered 6.

There were 22 Lineman Challenge teams battling it out in five events over the course of one hour and 45 minutes --- and the champions were:

8th grade (7 teams): 1st/ LBMS 8-1 with 44 points; 2nd/ SBMS 8-1, 37 points; 3rd/ McGregor, 27 points.

7th grade (9 teams): 1st/ BMS 7-1, 46 points; 2nd/ LBMS 7-1, 40 points; 3rd/ Gatesville, 20 points.

6th grade (6 teams): 1st/ McGregor, 38 points; 2nd/ LBMS 6-1, 37 points; 3rd/ SBMS 6-1, 32 points.

Around 500 youngsters from Belton participated in the league and tournaments this year.

Teams and fans of Junior High 7-0n-7 are reminded that there are still three events Belton will host this year, so keep the following dates open on your calendar:

June 9: The Belton State Qualifier Tournament

June 12: Belton Night to host CenTex League 7-on-7

June 15-16: Belton Lone Star Shootout
