The Belton Parks and Recreation Department will offer a ‘Tea Party’ along with many other activities this summer. This summer, area residents can count on the Belton Parks and Recreation department for a guaranteed summer full of fun as new classes are starting in June for all different ages.
Recreation Coordinator Johanna Long said it's a great summer to be in Belton. The Summer Fun Camps are weekly camps throughout the months of June, July and August where kids can come and learn about the natural world in a variety of ways, from bugs to how to create the perfect tea party with friends.
"There are even a few classes just for tweens," she said. "The Summer Fun instructor, Leah McHorse has 10 years of experience in teaching these classes for the little ones. Classes begin June 4 so hurry and sign up."
Long added that photography workshops for beginners and the experienced recreational photographer will be on the summer agenda for the first time this year, taught by the Belton Journal's own, Justin Cox.
Also, on the second Friday of every month is Belton Board Game Night. This program is at the Harris Community Center and is from 7 to 9 p.m. and is free to the public.
Other programs in the Belton Parks and Recreation include: Yoga, Martial Arts, Zumba, Twogether in Texas (marriage education), and CPR/First Aid Certification classes (beginning in July).
National Parks and Recreation month will be celebrated this year in Belton during July, and residents can spend the month hanging out in one of 13 parks in the City of Belton. On July 14, jat Chisholm Trail Park, you can "Get Wild" and celebrate National Park Month. Each field at the park will have a representative from a different sport to teach kids and adults new moves and safety tips.
They will have sand volleyball games, ultimate Frisbee games, kickball games, and more. Part of the national celebration includes a virtual scavenger hunt.
At the end of June, the first clue will be given. Look for it on the City's website or in the monthly newsletter. Once you find the answer, take a picture and send it in to receive the next clue. Answer all the clues correctly and receive a prize at the July 14 celebration.
Also, after taking the photography classes, enter our free Nature photography contest. Entry forms and rules will be available on the website soon. Photos must be taken in a City of Belton Park. Entries will be displayed on July 14th at the park celebration where winners will be announced as well.
Movie in the Park will be held July 27 at Harris Community Park, where the city will be showing a movie on the big screen. The movie starts at dusk and pre-movie activities will begin at 8 p.m.
More information about all events and programs with the City of Belton can be found on the City's website www.beltontexas.gov, on the Special Events page or on the Recreation page.
