Market Days to celebrate anniversary

Market-DaysA mother and her children check out merchandise at the Downtown Belton Merchants Association’s Market Days.Market Days in Historic Downtown Belton will serve cupcakes and have carnival rides in observance of its fourth anniversary Saturday, May 19. Early vendor registration indicates a participation of some 70 vendors by Saturday, according to Erma Elser, chairman of the downtown Belton Merchants Association which organized and stages the monthly old-time "Trades Day" in the county seat of Bell County.

Vendors from all parts of Central Texas offer a wide variety of merchandise from antiques to furniture at reasonable prices, according to Mrs. Elser.

Highlighting the usual events, a classic car show will be staged around the Historic Bell County Courthouse in downtown Belton. This show will be enhanced with a classic motorcycle show.

At the east end of Central Avenue, the Belton Farmers Market will open for the season. Mary Coppin, farmers market manager, said local producers "will bring in whatever is growing this early in the season."

A gymnastics performance will be in the intersection of East St. and Central Ave.

A kids train ride has been added to the carnival attractions announced last week.

Officially Market Days opens at 8 a.m. and closes at 4 p.m. Vendors who choose to leave early must hand-carry all items from the sales area.

For general DBMA information call Erma Elser at 721-8296. For vendor registration call Sandy Bigham at 254-721-4693.
