Belton's 7-on-7 team won their pool at the Under Armour tournament in the Dallas area Saturday and lost in the quarterfinals. Some of the top teams in the state were at the tournament.
The Tigers defeated Garland 23-15 in the first game. Chase Thornal, Kyle Adamson and Rayshun Jones caught touchdown passes from Peter Shelburne and Ben Munoz had an interception on defense.
Belton won a close one over Southwest Christian 32-28. Derick Bates had a touchdown reception and Thornal added two more touchdowns to lead the Tigers on offense. The defense pulled down four interceptions with Ryan Johnson, Chase Kern, Garrett Curry and Kyle Battle each having an interception.
The Tigers crushed Burkburnett 51-20 to win their pool. Scoring for the Tigers were Thornal-2, Brandon Rhoads, Andre Ewing-2, Durham Smythe and Bates. Shelburne had four touchdown passes and Shane Stafford added three tosses. Battle led the defense with an interception.
The Tigers lost in the quarterfinals to Arlington 37-24. The Tigers were in the game till the end with Shelburne throwing four touchdown passes. Scoring for the Tigers were Bates-2, Thornal and Jones. Stephenville won the tournament.
