Tigers spring game Saturday

That time has quickly and quietly slipped up on Belton football fans --- It's time for the Annual Red & White Tiger football game! Tomorrow, Friday May 25th , bring your family and friends to get a first-look at our Tigers.

The action gets underway at Tiger Stadium at 5:00pm with the freshmen and junior varsity scrimmage.

"Our numbers are still so big. We have 195 kids still practicing," said Tiger Athletic Director Rodney Southern. "What we're going to do is take the junior varsity groups, the young, young guys that we're pretty sure are going to be JV and get them more 'hands on' time.

After a break, about 7:00pm, the varsity group will be divided into two equal teams, not #1offense against #2 defense or #2 offense versus #1 defense for their scrimmage.

"We will split them almost equal down the middle," Southern explained. "I think that creates more of a 'game' atmosphere and we'll have two 15-18 minute halfs. What I want to try to do is ....we have probably seven or eight kids right now that are 'on the bubble', varsity or JV....and this will give them an opportunity to go out and play with a varsity guy right beside them. Obviously, the quarterbacks will each have a team."

The coach explained that instead of having five offensive linemen, it will be ten that have to work together. He added the reason is that, other than a couple of spots, this is probably the most depth that the Tigers have had since he came here and he wants them all to get a chance to play.

"We are looking for our top 44 kids," Southern said. "Realistically, we need 22 on offense and 22 on defense. Hopefully, we can have a two-deep (roster) all the way across."

Belton Athletics invites the entire community to come out and support the Tigers.

In addition, a free service is being offered to all Belton Tiger supporters ---- If your business designs and sells Belton merchandise and you are interested in setting up a vendor tent for this game, call Denise Petter at 254-215-2091 or email for more information.
