MPR looking at hike trails
Wednesday, 06 June 2012 by David Tuma
Morgan's Point Resort is in the planning stages to develop a series of walking and paddling trails throughout the community. The plan will be developed and presented to the public through a series of community meetings. The meetings will be in a town hall style setting.
There are several ways to develop the walking trails and they will follow the road ways in the community. "People don't drive fast here so the streets are safe for walking. Once you get near the lake area it is simply beautiful here," said MPR City Manager David Huseman.
The paddling trails is also being developed in the MPR area on Lake Belton. The Economic Development Commission for MPR has set aside some of their tax dollars collected from residents to develop the trails. The paddling trails are being developed across the state by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and once the trails are completed it will be posted on their web site.
There will be three paddling trails developed and at the beginning of each trail there will be a covered area with information. "This is a tourism tool we can use. The trails can bring folks to town that may not have ever thought of coming to Morgan's Point," said Huseman.
There are 37 paddling trails across the state. For more information visit www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fishboat/boat/paddlingtrails.
Dollar General is also building a 9,100 sq. ft. building and the completion date is set for August.
