ASCO to sponsor charity fun run for Marine Outdoors

Anyone looking for a way to give back to both the community and to those who have served our country will now have the opportunity to do so at the ASCO charity fun run.

The fundraiser will take place at 700 Confederate Park Drive on Saturday, June 2. A registration fee of $20 will have to be paid for adults, while children 12 and under get in free.

Pets are invited to come at no extra cost as long as they are on a leash.

The charity group Combat Marine Outdoors, focuses on the rehabilitation of those from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and Marines who have been wounded during combat. They also provide dream hunts and outdoor adventures.

All of the money collected from T-shirt sales including the fun run will go solely to the organization.

A variety of activities will be available to participants at Confederate Park.

"There will be a 2.2 mile fun run along Nolan Creek, a hike/bike trail, a bounce house and singer songwriter Mark Wayne Glasmire will play music," Territory Manager for ASCO John Pooler said. "Glasmire said he would be able to drive in form Arlington to support the event at no charge."

The artist will also be sharing half of all the proceeds made from the selling of his merchandise at the function.

A few sponsors involved with the event are lending some of their services at a discount rate or for free.

The city of Belton donated the usage of the park and the city services for the function at no charge, and a stage from the Bell County Expo Center was also donated.

Eagles Wings Inflatables donated a bounce house and H-E-B has also expressed an interest in supporting the event with bananas and water.

Besides raising money, Pooler also wants to honor the wishes of the men and women who have sustained serious injuries while on duty, by sending them on outdoor excursions.

"Please help us in supporting our combat wounded veterans this weekend," he said.
