FCA to host Victory Bowl Saturday

The Fourth Annual Heart of Texas Fellowship of Christian Athletes Victory Bowl is two days away ---- University of Texas and Olympic gold medalist swimmer Josh Davis was the featured speaker Sunday evening at the Sharing the Victory Banquet and Auction at UMHB's Mayborn Campus Center and the week's activities officially kicked off Wednesday.
93 players, 20 cheerleaders and 10 area head coaches representing 70 central Texas high schools to make up this year's event
Five practices, five local outreaches, trips to the Dr. Pepper History Museum and Texas Sports Hall of Fame, a pancake eating contest, pep rally, and team time with Special Olympic athletes will lead up to the big game Saturday.
Wednesday was a busy day as coaches, players and cheerleaders were photographed in uniform and interviewed at Floyd Casey Stadium.
Today (Thursday), the cheerleaders served breakfast at 9am at the Boys and Girls Club in Hillsboro and the Texas Sports Hall of Fame is the scene of a pancake eating contest from 5:30-7pm.
Friday will be a day of service for everyone --- Service outreaches will take place from 2:30-4:30pm, the Red and Blue teams will be at the Victory Bowl Youth Camp at the stadium and the cheerleaders will go to Hillcrest Hospital, both the Herring Campus and Interstate 35. The day will climax with a huge two-hour pep rally at Highland Baptist Church.
Players and coaches manage to get in time for meetings and practices in between all of the other activities.
Saturday, the big day, will begin with team time with Special Olympics in the morning and the 4th Annual FCA Super Centex Victory Bowl game at Floyd Casey Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30pm. The band and cheerleaders will perform at halftime.
At the game's conclusion, voting will take place for the Bob McQueen Offensive and Defensive Most Valuable Players of the game.
Tickets for the game are $5 and will be sold on game day or by calling 254-717-451. Entrance to the game will be available at 5pm and all fans are encouraged to enter Floyd Casey Stadium thru gate 5. Programs and merchandise will also be on sale.
