Belton’s 1958 state championship basketball team

Teammates from Belton's 1958 state championship basketball team traveled to San Antonio May 19 to join Billy Wilbanks for his induction into the Texas High School Basketball Hall of Fame. Wilbanks, then a senior guard, is the ONLY former Belton athlete to ever be chosen for this elite honor. From left to right, the teammates are Bill Surghnor, Dale West, Richard Inman, Bernard Bartek, James Brantley, Will Garner, Joe Pirtle (then-assistant coach), Jarrell Hayes and Billy Wilbanks. (Calvin Hayes was present but not in the photo. Dennis Watson, Dick Baker and Tom Normand were unable to attend)
Billy Wilbanks was one of six athletes in the 2012 class of inductees into the Texas High School Basketball Hall of Fame.
