Belton High School made history last Thursday as 99 percent of the class of 2012 received their diplomas during the school's graduation ceremony at the Bell County Expo Center.
"We had 99 percent of this graduating class that met all of the standards," Belton Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Susan Kincannon said. "Not only did they meet the district's standards, but 99 percent of these students passed their state assessments. It was our highest numbers ever."
In all, 590 students walked across the stage to begin a new chapter in their lives.
Kincannon said the 2011-12 school year was one of the most successful years the school has seen.
"We had a wonderful year," Kincannon said. "We started the year talking about three areas of focus for our school district and those were increased student engagement, increased rigor and building relationships with kids, with each other and with the community. I think that we were successful in all three of those areas.
"Our students were very fortunate to have such a highly committed staff this past year to really want to meet those objectives for them."
