Cedar Crest names new medical director

Cedar Crest Hospital & RTC is pleased to welcome Edmund Cavazos III, M.D. as their new Medical Director. Dr. Cavazos received his Medical Degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Texas. A member of various medical associations, he pursues being a vocal advocate for patient care & patient rights
A national, state, and local guest lecturer on child, adolescent and adult psychiatric topics, Dr. Cavazos came to Cedar Crest Hospital as a native Texan, after serving as the Medical Director for one of the largest Behavioral Health Organization for the past 20 years.
"We are very pleased to add a leader of such capability to our medical staff," said Ingrid Whipple, Cedar Crest's Chief Executive Officer. "Our patients and staff will benefit from his experience and dedication as well as a being great clinical asset to Central Texas."
Dr. Cavazos has an extensive background. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corp, as he was a recipient of a military Health Professional Scholarship Program. He was the former Medical Consultant, Medical Review Officer for the Army Drug & Alcohol Prevention Control Program, as well as the Chief of Inpatient Psychiatry at Ireland Community Hospital at Fort Knox, Kentucky.
In addition, he was the first physician in the nation to complete his Certification in Juvenile Sex Offenders Counseling and is also a Certified Criminal Justice Addiction Specialist for Adolescents. He is a member of the National Task Force for Juvenile Youth Offender Treatment, and as a psychiatrist, he serves as a preceptor of Psychiatric Advanced Register Nurse Practitioners for Vanderbilt School of Nursing and the University of Louisville.
