Market Days this Saturday

Downtown Belton Merchants Association will brave predicted three-digit temperatures Saturday and host the regular Third Saturday of the Month Market Days. Hot weather is competing with low gas prices but store owners are planning for a big day.

Events really begin Friday night when the recently added Rod Hop runs from 7 p.m. to midnight on Central Ave. This is a free event.

Market Day officially is 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. but anybody that wants to shop around 5 a.m. is urged to do so.

"That way you can help vendors set up," according to Erma Elser, DBMA chairman. The family oriented Market Days is staged on Central Ave. in Historic Downtown Belton. Central Ave. is closed from Main St. to Penelope St. by decree of the City of Belton. This allows shoppers and vendors free movement in the area.

Downtown stores will stay open as usual on Fridays, until 8 p.m. For vendor reservations and information call Erma Elser at 721-0296 or Sandy Bigham at 254-721-4603.

Downtown Belton offers free entertainment Thursday through Saturday nights. Thursday night is a free concert in The Back Yard at Schoepf's Barbecue and the DBMA Rod Hop on Friday and The Gin on the bank of Nolan Creek stages free concerts Thursay, Friday and Saturday nights.
