Virginia Irene Deaver Shafer, 86, of Jacksonville, former Taylors Valley resident, died in Jacksonville July 10. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. July 17 at Autrey Funeral Home in Jacksonville. Burial was in Stillwater Memorial Gardens.
She was born March 27, 1926 to Carrell H. and Mary Lee Johnson Deaver in Tahoka. A 1943 graduate of Academy High School, she married Thomas L. Shafer. She worked in department stores in Temple before the family moved to East Texas in 1961.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years; three daughters, Brenda Fleming of Corinth, Carolyn Hutchins of Tyler and Judy Phillips of Frisco; a sister, Inez Beadle of Little River-Academy, nine grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
