UMHB hosts football skills camp

Area athletes participated in a youth sports camp hosted by the University of Mary Hardin Baylor earlier this week. The camp was run by former Belton Tigers quarterback Cody Fredenburg.UMHB's football program hosted a skills camp for area athletes conducted by former Belton Tigers quarterback Cody Fredenburg. The camp was for smaller ages and was well attended by area athletes.
Next year for the older ages Fredenburg will host a camp for quarterbacks and receivers. "We wanted to introduce the kids to the sport of football. The camp was designed to make it fun. If you start off having a good time playing football the chances are you will continue to play," said Fredenburg.
They coaches for UMHB worked with the athletes teaching basic skills on how to tackle, catch and throw the football properly. "People don't know there is a certain way to hold the football and the way to properly throw the football," said Fredenburg.
Cody was a two year starter for Belton at quarterback and in 1999. The Tigers won the Area Championship defeated Hays Consolidated in one of the biggest wins in the programs history. He went on to lead the Cru to their first every playoff appearance.
