Greyhound fund raiser planned for Saturday

Stormy, a senior greyhound, is one of many dogs, young and old, available through Greyhound Pets of America-Central Texas. Currently in an Austin foster home, Stormy had been used for breeding purposes after she broke a leg, possibly on the racetrack or in training.

Hungry dog lovers can fill their bellies with flapjacks and at the same time help find homes for retired greyhounds from 8 to 10 a.m. this Saturday at Applebee's in Temple.

"Flapjack Fundraiser for Greyhounds," sponsored by Greyhound Pets of America-Central Texas, is an all-you-can-eat breakfast with a portion of the proceeds going to the organization. GPA-CT is based in Austin, but also has members and conducts outreach efforts in the Belton and Temple areas.

Local members of GPA-CT will serve as waiters and will be happy to answer questions about greyhounds, why they make good pets and why the need for adopters and fosters is so great. The breakfast will feature pancakes, eggs, sausage, home fries, orange juice and coffee.

The cost of the breakfast is $8, available at the door or from a GPA-CT member. A portion of the proceeds will go to Greyhound Pets of America-Central Texas.

Applebee's is located at 1808 SW HK Dodgen Loop.

GPA-CT is a chapter of Greyhound Pets of America – a nationwide, not-for-profit organization, the mission of which is to find loving homes for retired greyhounds and greyhounds that could not qualify for the track.
