BHS releases iPad info for parents
Sunday, 05 August 2012 by Keith Bahlmann
A letter was sent home recently to parents of Belton High School students giving information about the distribution of iPads to BHS students for the coming school year. Information stated that all BHS students will have individual access to online learning resources whether from a school-issued iPad or a student-owned iPad. School-issued iPad2s with pre-loaded educational apps will be provided to all students who do not choose to bring their own ipad to school. Students who do choose to bring their own iPad 2 or new iPad must also bring a protective case. Original iPads will not be supported through Belton ISD. Advantages in having a personal iPad include greater freedom to personalize the iPad and case, and the ability to use it all year and after graduation. The purchase of individual iPads is not the District's expectation but only an option.
A $30 "insurance fee" will be required before iPads will be issued to students to cover loss or damage, and all parents should attend one of the five orientation meetings:
Friday, August 17, 9 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. – BHS Performing Arts Center (PAC)
Thursday, September 6, 6 p.m. – BHS Commons
Tuesday, September 11, 5:30 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. – BHS PAC
The $30 fee may be paid during any of these meetings, online via the BHS web site, or during lunch beginning Monday, September 11. More detailed information about iBHS may be found at www.bisd.net/bhs.
BHS Principal, Kathy Cook, said, "Belton High School is already recognized as one of the top high schools in the state of Texas. With this move toward technology-driven instruction, we will reach even greater heights of student learning while preparing students for success in a digital age."
