Construction nearly finished
Sunday, 05 August 2012 by Matthew Girard
Construction along 9th Avenue and University Drive is nearing completion. Construction is nearing completion at the intersection of 9th Avenue and University Drive.
Gary Sargent of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Police Department said other than a small inconvenience to residents, the construction hasn't effected the area more adversely.
"The streets, with the exception of Crusader Way, are open at this time," Sargent said. "We don't expect to have anymore complete closures."
The 9th Avenue/University Drive project included replacing storm drain facilities.
Although the intersection won't be closed again, it will be reduced to one lane of traffic while crews put the finishing touches on the street.
"Ninth Street and University Drive will be reduced to one lane of traffic as they resurface the streets, but that will be the latter part of this month," Sargent said.
Crusader Way remains to be closed while it is being moved closer to the train tracks.
"The new Crusader Way is scheduled to be opened around Aug. 13," Sargent said.
Alternate routes include University Drive north of 9th, to Crusader Way, to Loop 121, to West 2nd Avenue to Main Street.
