Belton to begin second football camp

For residents in the area Temple annexed, Morgan's Point Resort and Belton the Tigers football camp August 6'-10th is a key to getting a start on the upcoming season. The second camp is for incoming 7th-9th grade students is huge with over 300 attending last year by far more than any program in the area.

The Tigers have participation in sports that is just off the charts and this camp leads to the start of two-a-days for the incoming freshmen football players that expected to win district again.

"It is an advanced camp with some fundamentals but it is more about offense and defense. They will spend time in the weight room and most of them are familiar with that part of it. There will be a mock practice so kids will get used what is expected on the varsity level. It lets the junior high coaches get an impression on the players and the players get to find out what is expected," said offensive coordinator David Brewer.

With Belton's dominating position only getting stronger with unmatched facilities and kids that no matter where they live, list their home town as Belton. It is heady times for a community whose quality of life is simply unmatched.

Belton's football program is heading in a direction it hasn't been before, a top program at the top level of play. It isn't totally there yet but that is where it is heading. Anyone who has watched this summer , from junior kids in large numbers pumping iron to women working out on the turf of Tiger Field knows that Belton is different.

"During the camp we have varsity coaches and players speak to them. It gives them a big advantage over players that didn't make it when school starts. We have more coaches here so there is more that we can do with them. For the ones that make it they are a week ahead. It is important for them to take back to the junior high how important football is and what it takes to win. Now that we have this facility they get to see what is here for them when they get to high school."
