Betty McCreight

Betty McCreight, 87, of Longview, formerly of Belton, died July 24 in Longview. Graveside services were July 28 at 11 a.m. at Thompson Cemetery in Copeville with Mitchell I. Whitington of Jefferson officiating.

Mrs. McCreight was born Sept. 28, 1924, Ralls to Lonnie Darwood and Gladys Inez (Teague) Newlin. Her family later settled in Fannin County were she grew up on a farm located near the tiny community of Tulip. There she received her early education in a one-room school house and attended high school in Bonham, where she graduated in 1941.

She married Dr. James O. McCreight Jr. of Yantis Feb. 9, 1946 in Dallas. That same year they moved to Belton where he opened a dental practice which he continued for the next 40 years.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Belton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers, Bobby Earl Nowlin and William Hunter Nowlin and one sister, Joyce Evelyn Sanford.

She is survived by a son, Jeffery McCreight and wife Andres of Addison; one daughter, Lisa Barry and husband Michael of Jefferson; one granddaughter, two great-granddaughters, one sister, Sondra Cannon of Friendswood; one sister-in-law, Mary Lou Meredith and her husband, Frank, of Dallas and several nieces and nephews.
