Tims family holds reunion

Tims-family-holds-reunionAiden McQueen of Orange Grove attended his first Tims Family reunion with his dad Chad McQueen, also of Orange Grove. He sits with great-great-grandmother, Polly Tims McQueen of Alice. Sharing his picture are his grandmother, Shelly Sweeden of Robstown, his great-grandmother Snuffie McQueen of Waxahachie.The 44th annual Tims Reunion was held July 14 at the Troy Community Center with 89 relatives and friends attending. Attendees registered from Alice, Austin, Belton, Big Spring, Brownwood, Burlington, El Paso, Fredericksburg, Georgetown, Lockhart, Magnolia, Midlothian Grove, Pendleton, Robstown, Rogers, Salado, Temple, Waxhachie and Zephyr Texas and Farraday and Clayton, La.

The reunion theme "Fiesta" was carried out with handmade paper flowers and colorful trimmings by Mindy Howell Georgetown.

Prior to the covered dish luncheon, Jim Howell of Georgetown welcomed the family to the gathering and remembered Jo Jo Wingo and Ned Finney who passed away since the last gathering. Keith Howell of Georgetown gave the prayer of remembrance and thanksgiving.

The reunion cake was baked and decorated by Dorothy Tims Jecmenek of Temple. Mindy Howell, and Amber Moore of Temple presided at the registration table and tabulated the award winners.

Recognized during the ceremony were: Polly Trims McQueen of Alice, oldest person present; Aiden McQueen of Orange Grove, youngest present; traveling the most miles, Denise and Allen Finney of El Paso, most recently married couple, Tim and Allison Cope, most family members present, Bob Tims family with 39. On behalf of Bob's family, his daughters, Anna Stone of Zephyr, Betty Broome of Brownwood and Dorothy Jacmenek accepted the certificate. Couple married the longest Virginia and Melvin Elkins of Belton.

Susan Jecmenek of Temple designed the certificates and Toni Howell of Georgetown penned the calligraphy on each.

Bingo games were called by Chad McQueen an Sherry Palmer under the direction of Shelly Sweeden. Maxine Howell family historian displayed family genealogy and scrapbooks.

The next reunion will be July 13, 2013 a 10 a.m. at Rogers High School cafeteria in Rogers. Contact Maxine Howell or Betty Broome for more information on the descendants of Robert Lee and Maggie Ada (Hendeson) Tims early settlers of Belton where they raised a large family.
