UMHB Women’s Golf

The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's golf team improved by four strokes and one spot in the team standings as the Cru women took second place at the Lady Bulldog Fall Classic Tuesday in Seguin.
The UMHB women posted a 314-310=624 team total and finished 11 shots behind U.C.-Santa Cruz's winning total of 310-303=613. U.T.-Brownsville claimed third place after posting a 307-319=626, Southwestern University carded a 323-307=630 for fourth place, Houston-Victoria's 316-321=637 was good for fifth place, tournament host Texas Lutheran took sixth place with a 344-339=683 and the Southwestern "B" team rounded out the field with a 338-359=697 total.
The two-day, 36-hole event was played on a par-71, 5,991-yard layout at The Golf Club of Seguin.
Kelly Gonyea posted the best individual finish for the Cru. Gonyea took third place after shooting 78-74=152.
She finished three strokes behind Southwestern's Kelsey Coburn and her individual best 76-73=149.
Elizabeth Davis fired a 79-76=155 for UMHB to tie for eighth place.
Victoria Thane took 14th with a 78-80=158, Taylor O'Rear was 15th at 79-80=159 and Ashley Garbade tied for 16th place after posting a 77-83=160.
Emily Santos fired a 79-84=163 to finish in 19th place, Allison Holly tied for 20th place with an 82-82=164 and Sara Eckert tied for 24th place after recording an 84-81=165.
The tournament was the first for the UMHB women under new head coach Nancy Taylor-Capps. Taylor-Capps took over this summer after Darla Kirby was promoted to Associate Athletic Director.
The Cru women will return to action with the UMHB Fall Invitational on September 24th and 25th.
That tournament will be played at Wildflower Country Club in Temple.
