UMHB Men’s Soccer

The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team defeated Southwestern 2-0 in Georgetown, TX on Tuesday. The Cru improves to 2-1 on the season, while the Pirates even to 3-3.

UMHB outshot the Pirates 6-4 in the first half, gaining an early 1-0 lead with a goal by Derek Geels at the 40:01 mark. Geels again contributed to the Cru offense with an assist to Tyler Pate, who put the Cru up by two at the 54:06 mark. The Cru outshot the Pirates 9-8 in the match, also taking five corner kicks to the Pirates' one. Goalkeeper Brandon Stegmeyer recorded four saves for UMHB. The Cru improves to 4-3 all-time against Southwestern; the two last met on Sept. 13, 2011 when UMHB took another 2-0 victory.

The Cru will face Texas Lutheran on Sept. 14th at 4 p.m. Friday and Schreiner at Sept. 15th at 4 p.m. Saturday in American Southwest Conference action. UMHB returns home to face East Texas Baptist at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 20th.

UMHB Men's Soccer beats Texas A&M club team

The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team defeated the Texas A&M club team 2-1 in College Station, TX on Friday. The game does not count in official stats for the Cru because the NCAA does not recognize games against club teams as official contests.

UMHB controlled most of the first half, taking an early 1-0 lead when Chris Torres scored off an assist from Tyler Pate in the 19th minute. Texas A&M took charge in the second half, tying the game at 1-1 in the 60th minute. UMHB again gained momentum and capitalized on that when Torres scored the game-winning goal off an assist from John Williams in the 88th minute.

"It was a great win and a good prep for conference play," head coach Brad Bankhead said.

The Cru returns to play Tuesday afternoon in a 7:30 p.m. match against Southwestern. UMHB opens conference play at Texas Lutheran on Friday, Sept. 14th at 4 p.m. and will take on Schreiner Sept. 15th before returning home to face East Texas Baptist on Sept. 20th.
