OFFENSIVE
Darius Wilson, RB, Sr., Mary Hardin-Baylor Mary Hardin-Baylor senior running back Darius Wilson (Houston, Texas / Cy-Springs HS) ran for 165 yards and three touchdowns on just 12 carries and caught four passes for 40 yards and another score to lead the nationally-ranked Cru to a 34-7 season-opening home win over Kean. Two of his TD runs were from 65 and 73 yards out. His four total TDs tied a program record.
DEFENSIVE
Keith Villafranco, DB, Jr., Mississippi College Mississippi College junior defensive back Keith Villafranco (Kenner, La. / Crescent City HS) had seven tackles – one solo, one for loss – two interceptions, one forced fumble and a pass break-up to help fuel a
31-24 home win over Webber International. Villafranco's forced fumble set up the Choctaws' first touchdown. His second interception came on Webber International's final drive with under 1 minute remaining and sealed the win.
SPECIAL TEAMS
Dillon Koop, P, Sr., Texas Lutheran
Texas Lutheran senior punter Dillon Koop (Vanderbilt, Texas / Industrial HS) averaged 42.4 yards on eight booms, with a long of 50 yards twice and one pinned inside the 20-yard line as the Bulldogs fell 31-7 at home to nationally-ranked Trinity. Only one his punts did not go at least 37 yards.
Wilson named D3football.com Player of the Week
University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football player Darius Wilson has been named to the D3football.com Team of the Week for his performance in the Cru's 34-7 season-opening victory over Kean University last Saturday night. Wilson, a senior running back from Cy-Springs High School, ran for 165 yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries and he added four receptions for 40 yards and another score. The four total touchdowns tie a UMHB single-game record and Wilson had scoring runs of one, 65 and 73 yards and the touchdown reception covered 15 yards.
UMHB is now 1-0 on the season following the victory over Kean. The Cru will return to action with an 11:00 AM Central Time kickoff at 3rd-ranked Wesley College this Saturday in Dover, Delaware.
