Elementary School Groundbreaking
Monday, 24 September 2012 by Ashley Corn
Located on FM 2483 and highway 317, on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 9 a.m. the groundbreaking for Belton's newest elementary will take place. It is the first of three schools being built that were approved in this year's Bond Election. The name of the school has not yet been decided, but will be shortly. Attending the groundbreaking will be school, community, and student representatives, and Belton Chamber of Commerce members.
The newest elementary school currently in Belton is Tarver Elementary. The new school being built will follow the same design with the exception of a few minor changes based on staff input. Tarver Elementary is about 80,648 square feet; the new school will be 81, 419 square feet. It is scheduled to be open in May of 2013 and will feature a very kid-friendly colorful design on the inside, 166 parking spaces, about 40 classrooms, and much more. Another elementary school and a middle school are planned to be built soon after and be ready by 2014. The middle school that is planned on being built will be a replacement for Belton Middle School which will soon become a part of Belton High School.
"We would like to invite any other city representatives or people from the community to come join us in celebrating this exciting groundbreaking." Judy Owens from the Belton Educational Enrichment Foundation said.
