Belton won their 18th straight district game with a dominating 7-0 win over Killeen Shoemaker. Belton got up early with a 1-0 lead and never looked back. Dillion Darr added a shot on goal at 34:32. Logan Hellinghausen had a stop on defense at 29:43. Carlo Mosnia hit the post at 25:21. Hellinghausen with a perfectly struck crossing pass set up Tim Hagen who’s shot was wide at 24:36. Cameron Cooper’s header was wide at 22:40.
Tayron Martin set up Mosnia who scored to make it 2-0. Martin scored to make it 3-0 at 15:54. Martin was simply dazzling in overall play and is a player to watch in the coming weeks with key games against Temple and A&M Consolidated but the Tigers have more than just Martin.
Martin went one-on-one with the goal to make it 4-0 with 11:10 left in the first half. Shoemaker’s goalie made multiple outstanding saves in the game. Hagen set up Garret Patterson who’s header went in to make it 5-0 with 3:46 left in first half.
Patterson made it 6-0 to start the second half. Jack Kramer scored to make it 7-0 but the goal was called back. Martin scored off the rebound of Patterson’s shot on goal to make it 7-0 with 30:37 left. Martin made it 8-0. Patterson made it 9-0.
Senior defenders Manuel Amaya, Christian Bass and Quintin Drake recorded the shutout with Belton’s midfield dominating the game but the forwards of Belton put a lot of pressure on the Killeen defense.
“We are getting healthy after having some kids out for awhile. We are playing better as a team. They make some mistakes but they are working hard,” said Tigers head coach Chezo Mosnia.
The Tigers are moving the ball well and have attacking midfielders with speed that give teams problems matching up. Their defense is lead by senior Bass and Amaya and senior midfielder Darr has seen four years of district play and multiple playoff wins under their belts. The Tigers host Temple Tuesday at home with Consolidated beating Temple Tuesday.
