JLBC to host Cowboys and Caviar event Nov. 10

The JLBC's annual fundraiser, Cowboys and Caviar, will be held at Cathedral Oaks in Belton on Sat., Nov. 10 from 8 p.m. until 12 a.m. The night of fundraising will include music by Brian Gowan, complimentary beer and wine, Hors d'oeuvres, and both a live and silent auction. The ticket price is $50 per person. To purchase tickets, please visit the JLBC website at jlbellco.org.

The funds raised at the Cowboys and Caviar event will go to support the many programs the JLBC supports including Project S.M.I.L.E. (Sharing Moments in Laughter and Encouragement) a grassroots community program initiated in 2011 by the JLBC. Through this program, JLBC welcomes families to the McLane Children's Hospital Scott & White through welcome bags, encourages children through entertaining monthly events, and serves the children and families through additional volunteer opportunities at the hospital.

Other grassroots programs that JLBC supports are Kids in the Kitchen and Project Prom. Kids in the Kitchen is a program that helps teach youngsters about healthy eating habits and the importance of exercise.

Project Prom focuses on young women who have been identified by their school counselor as "at risk" or in need of extra assistance.

These young women are provided with an afternoon of "shopping" at the JLBC run store Second Hand Rose. They pick out their perfect prom dress and are provided with shoes and accessories as well.

In addition to providing the perfect prom experience the girls are also coached in healthy habits and skills to use once they are out of high school.

The Junior League is comprised of active, sustainer, and provisional members. Active members serve JLBC through a committee or council by contributing volunteer hours in the community. Sustainers are those members who no longer serve JLBC through an active placement, but instead offer support through guidance, advice and a financial commitment.

Provisional members are new members participating in a training program to learn more about the Junior League.
