BHS boys basketball lose first game of the season

The road debut for the 2012-2013 Belton Tigers Boys Basketball Team did not go according to plan Tuesday. The Tigers would travel to Cedar Park and drop their first game of the year, 65-47.

"I was very proud of their effort tonight," said first-year Tiger coach Charlie Lewis.

The Tigers would trail 18-9 after the first quarter. Belton clawed their way back to a 31-23 halftime deficit, fueled by Daniel Mills team-high 20 points.

"The team continued to fight and keep its composure," Lewis said. "They played hard and fought every second of the way."

Junior Braden Hammond would chip in 13 points as the Tigers drew closer to Cedar Park, trailing at the end of the third quarter 45-39. However, a 15-0 run by Cedar Park would turn out the lights on the Tigers for the remainder of the game.

"Cedar Park shot 57 percent for the game," Lewis said. "You're not going to lose many games with that percentage."

The Tigers (0-1) will head east to take on Bryan on Friday night.
