Teams swarmed into H-E-B Plus in Belton on Tuesday morning for the annual Thanksgiving Day Food Rally, which supported Helping Hands. On Tuesday at 6 a.m. teams were gathered from all over the community at Belton's H-E-B Plus to participate in the Annual Thanksgiving Food Rally, supported by H-E-B Belton and Belton High School FFA.
The event stocked community food pantries in Belton. The cost was $50 per basket per team, and there were more than a dozen teams.
The H-E-B managerial staff prepared a list of specific food iteams to be gathered by the teams.
The list was distributed just prior to the start of the race, and Board President Randy Pittenger gave a brief speech before turning the teams loose on their hunt.
Helping Hands Ministry and Belton Church of Christ were on hand at the conclusion of the food rally to accept team donations.
Participants had the choice of giving their basket's content to a family or charity of their choice.
It may have been early and it may have been cold, but everyone was wearing a smile as they started the competition.
Some went right and some went left, but they all rushed to the aisles in teams of two to be the first to fill their baskets with $50 of food from their lists.
H-E-B’s team, among others, decided to try splitting the list....but finding their teammate and basket after their hands were full proved to be tougher than anticipated.
