Powerlifters place 1st at invitational

The Belton High School Powerlifting teams participated in the Bulldawg Invitational Saturday at Lee Junior High School in Copperas Cove Saturday.

The Belton Lady Tigers placed first in the meet, dominating the field with eight first-place, weight class finishes, and an outstanding 71 points.

Placing first in their weight classes were: Ally Morales (97), Yeya Jaimes (105), Mari Cortez (114), Haley LeBlanc (132), Kyler Watkins (148), Susan James (181), Olivia Warehime (220) and Skylar King (220+)

Placing second in their weight classes were: Alyssa Czehowski (97), Jenny Newberry (123), Darby Baker (132), Carlynn Hickinbotham (165), Abby Dolan (181), Chloe Lewis (220+)

Nikki Valdez (181) and Autumn Conley (165) placed fourth and sixth respectively in their classes.

Yeya Jaimes received lifter of the meet for the second time this season in the 97-148 weight class. Susan James received honors for outstanding lifter in the 165-SHW weight class.

The Belton boys took home third place honors in the meet, finishing with 27 points for the meet. Only Temple and Midway placed ahead of the Tigers.

Xavier Moffitt finished first in the 148 weight class, with 1080 pounds lifted. Moffitt placed second overall in the 114-165 weight category with 797.58 points.

Abraham Villareal (114) and Brandon Julian (165) finished second in their respective weight classes. Villareal lifted a 615 pound total and Julian lifted a total of 1060 pounds.

Ryan Johnson (181) and Brandon Sullivan (275) finished third in their weight classes, with Johnson lifting 1040 pounds and Sullivan hoisting 1300 pounds total.

Stephen Snyder (165) and Rodarius Burks (SHW) finished fourth in their weight classifications, Snyder lifting 970 pounds and Burks lifting a total of 1335 pounds.

The team will take next week off , but will resume its quest for a Regional and State Championship the next week at the Belton Invitational Meet on Feb. 9.
