Tigers down Midway, 1-0

Belton's dominance in district play has resulted in district championship after district championship. Tuesday night Midway came to Belton and proved they belonged in a challenging game for the Tigers. Both teams play one-touch games using multiple pass to move the ball down field instead hope and pray long passes.
Belton's defense led by Carlo Mosnia dominated and the Tigers got the one goal they need when Angel Hernandez scored in the first half sealing the Tigers 1-0 win.
"We got our new jersey's right before the game and it was a big lift. Midway is good and they are physical. With all the injuries our players really stepped up. We knew they were going to play a sweeper back on defense so we put a forward on him and it worked," said Hernandez.
Mosnia block a shot at 24:20. Jose Guzman was a force in the middle with multiple steal including two big ones at 22:04 and 5:52 that set up a free kick for the Tigers from 35-yards out. Cory Entrop had a steal at 21:03 and Cody Bartek had multiple stops on defense including a big one at 17:21. Defender Erik Rodriguez has a stop at 14:22.
Nick Amato off a steal set up Hernandez for a clean shot on goal at 12:05. Keegan Valentino set up Hernandez for the game winning goal at 8:34.
Branden Coulter set up Valentino who hit the top cross bar at 2:22. Scott Carnley had a stop on defense right before half.
Cesar Cruz had a dominating second half and started the half of right for the Tigers with a steal. Ryan Parker set up a free kick at 33:37 with a rough physical first ten minutes. Erik Rodriguez had a stop on defense Cruz added another steal. Cruz set up Jose Guzman who's shot was just high at 26:53. Coulter set up a free kick at 23:54 from 36-yards out.
Mosnia had several stops in the first 20-minutes of the second half and a clear 35-yards out of the goal at 14:08. Valentino almost scored from a Parker throw-in. Parker can almost throw it in the goal. Amato took the Tigers last clean shot on goal.
Belton kept the pressure up on offense in the second half which played big in keeping Midway from flooding the Tigers goal with players. Two questionable free kicks were called deep on the Tigers side late. "We just have good team chemistry. We have been playing together at the club level for years. We shut down there sweeper. This was a huge win for us and Midway is a very good team," said Valentino.
Belton's banged up soccer team went 3-0 at the Round Rock tournament. Belton ripped Westwood 3-0 with Angel Hernandez scoring all three goals for a hat trick.
The defeated Hutto 8-2 with Angel Hernandez, Jose Guzman, Keegan Valentino, Erik Rodriguez, Brandon Coulter-3 and Carlo Mosnia scoring in the win.
Belton defeated Pflugerville 3-0 with Valentino scoring two goals and Nick Amato one.
