UMHB sponsors ‘Cheer the Beard’ night

After six games apiece and 38 days since last playing at home, the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's and women's basketball teams will finally get a chance to play at the Mayborn Campus Center again this week for a pair of doubleheaders. The Cru men and women will play host to Schreiner University in an American Southwest Conference West Division doubleheader on Thursday. Those will be the first home games for UMHB since the Cru men and women played host to Hardin-Simmons University on Saturday.

The UMHB athletic department will sponsor two events for Thursday's doubleheader to help welcome the basketball teams back to the Mayborn Campus Center. There will be "Cheer The Beard" activities associated with both games with fans encouraged to wear real or fake beards to the game. There will be a best beard contest during the men's game with prizes awarded to the top three beards. The event is tied in with and inspired by the beard worn by UMHB senior wing Cory Meals. To learn more about Cory and his beard, you can watch an interview with him here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FnLufLAnmW0.

UMHB will also be participating in the ASC's "Make-A-Change in 14 Days" campaign during Thursday's doubleheader. All gate proceeds will be donated to Special Olympics and members of the UMHB Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will be accepting donations during both games.

Tonight's games will start at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The UMHB men are currently 18-3 overall and 14-1 in ASC play. The Cru can clinch the ASC West Division Championship and a No.-1 seed in the ASC Championship Tournament with a win over the Mountaineers.
