Tiger soccer teams pick up wins
Monday, 18 February 2013 by David Tuma
In a brutally physical game the Tigers pulled away at the end to defeat Ellison 2-1. The Eagles have improved over the past three seasons and are a legitimate playoff contender in district this season and they proved how good they can be in a match they could have won.
Cody Bartek scored for the Tigers in the first half off a Ryan Parker throw-in. Ellison tied it and the game stayed tied until the final minutes when Angel Hernandez scored the winning goal off a Parker throw-in at 3:24. It wasn't pretty but it was a win. "We play at times to other teams levels. The young players are getting better and it just takes experience at this level. We want to continue the streak of district championships," said Carlo Mosnia.
Cesar Cruz, off a steal, fed the ball to Timothy Williams who hit a crossing pass in front of Ellison's goal. Williams added a shot on goal at 33:57. Mosnia had a save at 31:23. Hernandez was stopped with a hard tackle in front of the Ellison goal at 28:05. Scott Carnley had a stop on defense. Cruz, after a hard collision, had to leave the field for a brief time.
Hernandez had a cross at 17:20. Keegan Valentino set up Cruz for a shot on goal. Mosnia had a stop at 11:04 and was hit hard after catching the ball. The ball was knocked loose setting up an Ellison corner kick. Carney had a stop at 7:43. Hernandez put the game away after a Parker throw-in bounced his way. Hernadez struck the ball after one bounce and drove it home to ice the game at 3:43. Nick Amato was tackled from behind hard in front of Ellison's goal with the ball not touched with 45 second left. Jose Guzman had a brilliant clear of a cross with 10 second left.
The Tigers soccer team slipped past Harker Heights. Scoring for Belton were Nick Amato, Angel Hernandez, Cesar Cruz and Cory Entrop with two goals to give the Tigers a 5-3 win on the road. Belton travels to Temple Friday.
"We are up and down and it is just a lack of experience. It is good when you don't play your best and you win," said Tigers head coach Mosnia.
Lady Tigers down Heights, Ellison

Lady Tigers Soccer crushed Harker Heights 4-0 with Jamie Boone scoring a pair of goals at Wilson-Kerzee Field. Goalkeepers Courtney Dippel and Madison Kalista recorded the shutout. Jacy Love and Aubrey Martinez scored for Belton.
The Lady Tigers defeated Ellison 9-0. Scoring for Belton were Boone, Natalie Russ, Madi Goldston, Bekah Robinson, Courtney Dippel and Tarran Lisenbe. The Lady Tigers host Temple at home Friday.
